Being proactive

Updated: Sep 14, 2022

Proactive approaches, such as co-creating guidelines do not eliminate challenging behaviors, but can reduce the number of occurrences. Learners know what's expected and that decreases anxiety and uncertainty.

Recommendations for co-creating guidelines include:

3 to 5 – NOT a laundry list

Framed in the positive

Worded by the participants wherever possible

Post and refer to them often

Visual symbols work well
